868 Backyard

Naturally landscaped to allow native plants, animals and pollinators to thrive, the 868 backyard is extra long and wide with over 8000 square feet to call your own. A paver patio and a round fire pit near the back of the yard call for outings. The cute shed with a work table and shelves and room enough for all kinds of tools beckons too. Watch the orange lilies bloom after being one of the first to green the backyard, through to the last autumn colored leaf fall from the trees, it really is just wonderful.

Looking west across the backyard there is grass and native trees, bushes and flowers all a part of the natural landscaping that has been enacted at 868. A principle of sustainability or seen as an empowerment as the Ecological Landscape Alliance states in part of their mission, "to empower people to value biodiverse landscapes and employ more ecologically sound practices." Natural Landscaping means less management, less poisons and fertilizers and less mowing.

The paver patio is one of the nice things about the backyard. Part of the natural landscaping idea is to be on the ground and see things at eye level.

The 868 Backyard also includes a shed that can be used for anything you can imagine like gardening tools, potting supplies even a riding lawn mower if you decide to cut your own lawn!

Near the back of the yard is the fire pit area where a fire can start the night off or end it in a good way like roasting some marshmallows or sipping a beverage the fire pit has stories it could tell.

The total lot size is 8060 square feet.
Current homeowner is president of the Milewski Nature Fund which seeks a balance between our use of natural resources and the conservation of them. In his work with this educational not for profit he has learned and employed natural landscaping principles and works with the City of Northbrook in educating residents about the importance of the initiative "Slow Mow May" which seeks to reduce the amount of mowing in the spring and start it later in the spring so that pollinators have time to wake from their hibernation which usually occurs in the grass of all of our lawns.
The fire pit is not a permanent structure and can be moved or removed easily depending upon the new homeowner's choice.

Also near the back is a short trail from the shed to a line of wonderfully curling trees. The current homeowner chose to place a park bench there as a marker for the lot line and as a little getaway to read a book, watch birds or just enjoy being outside.
